Welcome to my new blog, short for Web log. I have temporarily redirected my We site address here as I catch up with technology and figure out the constantly evolving world of electronic publishing.
I hope you like the layout I chose. The stock picture above was what made me select it, reminding me very much of a certain “rude bridge that arched the flood.”
I learned about blogs and other social networking tools from Drew Smith as the featured speaker at a genealogical society meeting (IRGS). He predicted blogs overtaking newsletters in short order and I can certainly see why. Blogs are easy to start and manage, allow for comments, and have indexing features such as categories and tags that I’m still experimenting with. All of the newsletter layout and printing work becomes a thing of the past and when a story is ready, I can simply post it. If an update is needed, I can edit the story, attach it as a comment, or add a new item with a link back to the old. These are all very compelling features.
Of course, Blogs work best when they are fed a steady stream of content so be sure to visit often and see what is new. There are ways for you to automatically receive notification when the content changes but I’m still working on figuring them out.
So stick with me for a while as I learn this and hopefully keep you informed and entertained the in the process.
